            Peter Salett

Peter Salett is internationally known as a singer/songwriter who makes music that is lyrically powerful, with plaintive melodies and harmonies, and containing elements of country, Velvet Underground style rock, and Stax era soul. Salett's songs were described by Billboard magazine as being "rife with infectious pop melodies and sticky choruses".

Salett has gained widespread recognition through the release of three records on Dusty Shoes Music, the inclusion of his songs in several film soundtracks, his participation at Sundance, and tours including performances in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and London. A Featured Artist spot on Napster this spring brought over 100,000 fans to his website in just one week and Salett's record Heart of Mine climbed to the top 300 in sales on Amazon.com both in the US and the UK.

The title track of Heart of Mine was featured in Preotul, rabinul si fata (2000), directed by and starring Edward Norton and co-starring Ben Stiller and Jenna Elfman. Norton chose 'Heart of Mine' as the centerpiece for the picture, using it over a montage within the film and repeating it over the closing credits. The song, mixed by T-Bone Burnett, was the single off the soundtrack on Hollywood Records and was chosen by Disney to be promoted for its Golden Globe and Oscar campaigns. 'Heart of Mine' was praised worldwide, even reaching the top 5 in Thailand. Peter Salett's music has been showcased at Sundance in three of the last four years. Most recently his 'Wet Hot American Dream' was used over the closing credits of the comedy Wet Hot American Summer (2001).

Salett has toured extensively and, within the past year, has supported David Gray, Chris Whitley, Ron Sexsmith, John Wesley Harding, and Wild Colonials. A veteran on the New York City club scene, Salett has performed at such venues as Irving Plaza, Tramps, the Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Fez, and Brownies. In Los Angeles he has played the Troubadour, the Whisky, and the Mint.
